Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at 12:22 a.m. Deputy Jared Dewey observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of S.W. ER Scott Road for no apparent reason. Deputy Dewey turned around to investigate, but the vehicle drove off. Deputy Dewey caught up to the vehicle and determined the vehicle had an expired tag attached to it. Deputy Dewey conducted a traffic stop on South Duval Avenue. As Deputy Dewey walked up to the vehicle, he witnessed the driver (identified as Jessie Jackson III) attempting to empty and conceal a 16-ounce can of Busch beer. Deputy Dewey detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Jackson’s breath and vehicle. Jackson made several spontaneous statements admitting to consuming at least a six pack of beer. Jackson was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and was transported to the Madison County Jail without incident. Jackson refused to perform any standardized field sobriety exercises or to provide a breath test.
