On Tuesday June 28th Madison Dispatch received a call of a single vehicle accident on NE Clover Rd in Lee. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene they found no one around the car. After further investigation blood was found in the nearby cornfield.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office requested K-9 officers to come out and search for the injured occupants. Shortly after the K-9 was deployed a female exited the cornfield onto Cattail Road. EMS was called to evaluate her. She indicated that the male driver was still in the cornfield and that he was injured. She was later transported to South Georgia Medical with minor injuries.
The search continued for more than an hour for the male driver in the cornfield. The K-9 tracked him through the more than six-foot-tall cornfield and finally found him about 500 yards away. The driver, later identified as Troy Mendheim, fled the scene because he was afraid he had a warrant out for his arrest. He resisted the officers attempts to help and had to be restrained. He was later transported to Madison County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
