Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Friday the 6th day of March 2015 at 9:38 AM deputies attempted to stop a 2013 Volkswagen utility vehicle Westbound on Interstate 10 near the 260 mile marker for committing several traffic violations. The driver of the Volkswagen (later identified as Terrence Eugene Wester of Tallahassee) accelerated and exited the Interstate at State Road 53. The deputy activated his emergency lights and siren however Wester refused to stop and ran the stop sign while turning South onto State Road 53. Wester began to actively flee the deputy and quickly reached speeds of 115 miles per hour.
The pursuit continued South with speeds averaging 110 -115 miles per hour as Wester crossed into Lafayette County. As Wester approached the intersection of Hwy 53 and US 27 deputies backed off hoping Wester would slow his speed however Wester disregarded the stop sign and drove through the intersection at a high rate of speed. Wester continued to flee South on Lafayette CR 534. Wester maintained speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour and briefly lost control of the Volkswagen on a curve. Wester struck several small trees causing slight damage to the Volkswagen before regaining control and continuing to Flee.
At this time deputies from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office arrived and joined the pursuit. Wester continued to travel on CR 534 back out to US 27 where he again failed to stop at the intersection. Wester crossed US 27 onto CR 536 maintaining speeds of 115 miles per hour until the Volkswagen ran out of gas and coasted to a stop. Deputies were then able to take Wester into custody after a brief struggle. Deputies located a small amount of Marijuana in the vehicle along with a backpack containing a large amount of US Currency. Wester admitted to throwing a larger amount of Marijuana out of the vehicle during the pursuit. Wester was transported back to Madison County and placed into the Madison County Jail.
