Obituary: Gordon B. Braswell

November 29, 2014

 

Gordon B. Braswell, (USN RET), 75, of Valdosta died Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Langdale Hospice House. He was born on February 17, 1939 in Greenville, Florida to the late Charles William and Rachel Sloan Braswell.

 

Mr. Braswell was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church until moving to Valdosta where he joined Faith Baptist Church. He retired after thirty years of service in the United States Navy. He enjoyed horticulture, reading and computers.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Dawn Braswell of Burlington, Ontario, his son, Gavin Braswell of Valdosta, three grandchildren, Rachael Ruth of Burlington, Ontario, McKenzee Braswell and Mason Braswell both of Houston, TX; three brothers and two sisters in law, Paul and Kathleen Braswell of Greenville, FL; Bobby and Opal Braswell of Perry, FL; Steven Braswell of Mayo, FL; three sisters and brothers in law, Sue and Jim Hunter of Cherry Lake, FL; Jane and Ken Wells of Greenville, FL; Kathy and Lowell Hidy of Cherry Lake, FL; sister in law, Georgia Newman Braswell of Greenville, FL; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his wife Rachael Diaz Braswell, a brother, Billy Braswell and a sister in law, Beverly Braswell.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Cherry Lake United Methodist Church with Pastor Mickey Wisehart officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Cherry Lake United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 1, 2014 from 6-8pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home, 2215 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, GA 31602.
