Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Friday the 31st day of October, 2014 at 9:19 am deputies were called to 125 SW Harby Avenue in Greenville in regards to a male armed with a handgun. Upon arrival deputies learned the suspect had already departed the scene driving a Silver Toyota Sedan. Victims identified the suspect as 30 year old Thomas James Baldwin Jr of Greenville.
The victim reported that she and another person were standing in her yard when Baldwin drove up. Baldwin exited his vehicle wanting to fight. Baldwin then got back inside the Toyota and backed down the street a short distance. Baldwin stopped the car and retrieved a silver semiautomatic handgun from the trunk. The victim stated that Baldwin pulled the action back, chambered a round then ran towards her stating “he was going to kill someone before going back to prison”. The victim fled into the residence which was occupied by a 9 year old child and called 911.
During investigation of the scene, deputies discovered a bullet hole in the front of the residence near the front door. Deputies traced the path of the bullet and found that it entered the front wall of the residence traveling across a hallway then traveled through the bathroom wall. Deputies located the lead bullet in the bath tub. A spent .9mm shell casing was found in the front yard. No one was hit by the shot.
Deputies’ immediately began an extensive search for Baldwin but was unable to locate him. Surrounding Counties were also request to be on the lookout for Baldwin while investigators prepared arrest warrants for him.
On Sunday November 2, 2014 at 6:54 pm, Baldwin called the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to turn himself in. Deputies located Baldwin and placed him under arrest without incident.
