Cutting Doughnuts at Loves

August 19, 2014

Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Friday the 15th day of August 2014 at 11:46 pm a deputy of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office observed a Ford truck spinning a complete circle around all eight fuel pumps in the parking lot of Loves located on CR 255 South at the I-10 interchange. Patrons who were fueling their vehicles had to retreat to avoid being struck by the truck. The deputy activated his lights and the truck swerved around him traveling toward the parking lot exit. The deputy quickly caught up to the truck forcing it to stop before entering the highway.

The driver produced a California Identification Card identifying him as Christopher Don Cheatum of San Diego, California. The deputy immediately detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the breath of Cheatum and noticed he spoke with slurred speech.

The deputy had Cheatum perform a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Exercises but Cheatum was unable successfully complete them. Cheatum was placed under arrest without further incident and transported to the Madison County Jail.
