Stolen Cooler Leads to Grand Theft Charges

August 11, 2014

Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Saturday the 9th day of August 2014 deputies were dispatched to Yogi Bear Jellystone Park located at 1051 SW Old St Augustine Road in reference to a theft. Upon arrival deputies were escorted to a camp site where a guest of the park reported that he had left his camp site for approximately 45 minutes and when he returned he found that his CF35 Iceless Cooler valued at $779.00 was missing.

While deputies were gathering information from the victim, the park manager observed a white male carrying a cooler on the West side of the park near the wood line. The male subject dropped the cooler and fled on foot into the woods and off the parks property.

Deputies responded and attempted to locate the male subject in the woods. After a lengthy search of the woods deputies received information that two white males were involved in the theft and were currently at the Fast Track Store located on State Road 53 and the I-10 interchange attempting to get a ride. Deputies were also able to determine the identity of the two suspects and that one of them was a juvenile.

Deputies immediately responded to the Fast Track and located the two suspects. One of the suspects was wearing clothing that matched the description of clothing worn by the male seen fleeing into the woods and both suspects had fresh scratches and abrasions consistent with running through woods.

Both suspects were placed under arrest without incident and transported to the Madison County Jail. The cooler was returned to the owner.
