On Friday, July 4, 2014 a late afternoon power line failure at North Range Street and Livingston provide a sparkler show to rival the childrens 4th of July sparklers.  In the heat of the day a 7200 volt transmission line separated and fell to the ground burning the grass and soil of a private residence in the city of Madison.  Part of the city lost electrical power for more than an hour and city Police had to direct traffic at intersections where traffic lights were not functional.  Madison Fire/Rescue responded to the scene of the burning grass but could not put water on the fire until a Duke Energy crew arrived to cut off the power.  Madison County EMS also responded but fortunately were not needed because no injuries were reported.
