Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Wednesday June 11, 2014 at 6:46 pm deputies stopped a vehicle traveling on I-10 for committing a traffic violation. While taking enforcement actions the deputy noticed that the passengers seemed extremely nervous. Based on the occupants behavior the deputy deployed K-9 “Leo” to conduct a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle resulting in a positive response to the odor of narcotics.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle a purse was found to contain a smoking pipe and marijuana residue. A passenger claimed ownership of the purse. During further search of the purse the deputy located 1 stolen driver license, 1 stolen social security card and 31 stolen debit cards. The passenger initially provided a false identification to the deputy however her state issued Florida Identification Card was also located in the purse providing her true identity as Miriam Mae Nesbit of Miami Gardens, Florida. When questioned, Nesbit admitted to stealing most of the debit cards with intentions to use the funds on them to finance a trip to Pensacola, FL. Nesbit was arrested without incident and the stolen debit cards recovered.
