Tavaris Lawson Arrested for Throwing Cell Phones into MCI

Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Friday January 17, 2020 at approximately 4:40 am, deputies responded to Madison Correctional Institution in reference to a male subject observed by MCI personnel trespassing dressed in black pants and a black sweatshirt with a hoodie near a perimeter fence. Upon arrival, deputies along with the MCI Canine Team began to search for the subject (later identified as Tavaris Lawson). A short time later, Deputy Ryan Lowe and the MCI Canine Team located Lawson near the west outer perimeter fence. Lawson admitted to throwing a bag over the east side fence of the institution that contained 4 cell phones and tobacco. MCI staff was able to locate and recover the contraband and Lawson was arrested without incident.
