Student Brings Gun to MCCS

Updated: Feb 6

Update on the Madison County Central School weapon investigation. On Wednesday September 25, 2019, MCCS School Resource Officer Sergeant Joey Knight was contacted by a school staff member who reported that a student had information regarding another student bringing a gun to school at some point since the beginning of the 2019 school year. Sergeant Knight and Deputy Morris Bell immediately began an investigation in conjunction with school staff and quickly identified the student whom the accusation was made against. The 12- year- old male student denied the accusation. The student was searched along with areas of the campus that the student had access, however, no gun or weapon of any kind was located. Sergeant Knight and Deputy Bell began interviewing other students on campus regarding the accusation. The School District Threat Assessment Team was also notified and responded to assist with the investigation. Since the time the initial report was made, multiple statements have been taken claiming the accused brought a handgun to school during the second week of the 2019 school year and again approximately 2 weeks later. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is forwarding all the collected statements to the State Attorney’s Office to review for possible charges being filed and the accused has been suspended from school. This remains an active investigation and anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 973-4001, the Madison County School District Office at 973-5022 or the School Resource Deputy.
