Update: Tropical Storm Micheal
Madison County Emergency Management continues to monitor Tropical Storm Michael. Based on the latest information from the National Weather Service, TS Michael is expected to become Hurricane Michael by the end of the day.
It is important that you begin storm preparations immediately and have them wrapped up by Tuesday night. Should Michael continue on its current track and strengthening continues it is likely to make landfall as a Category 2 Hurricane with a possibility of a Category 3. Widespread and lengthy power outages are expected throughout the Big Bend area. Please plan and prepare accordingly. Timing predictions have Madison County beginning to feel tropical storm force winds Tuesday night with conditions deteriorating throughout the day Wednesday.
Madison County will open its risk shelter and special needs shelter tomorrow Tuesday October 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Madison County Central School for those who need to seek shelter from the storm. It is important that those coming to the shelter bring ALL necessary items including blankets, pillows and comfort items. Should you bring your pet, you MUST bring proof of vaccination, all supplies and understand that all pets will be housed in a designated area away from the main shelter.
Some government offices will be closing including the Madison County Solid Waste Collection sites. Sites will close tomorrow at 1:00 PM and remain closed Wednesday.
