Wreck Sends Two by Helicopter to Area Hospitals
On Wednesday March 22, 2017 on South SR 53 a white, late model, Ford Mercury four door was heading South and lost control and ended up in someone’s front yard. The Mercury left the road North of the brick home and slid through shrubs and small trees. It uprooted one tree and carried another fifteen-foot tree nearly sixty feet, lodged in the side of the car. The car continued another twenty feet or so, after the tree fell free, before coming to rest facing north just South of the brick home.
Emergency crews arrived to find two occupants trapped in the front seat with multiple injuries. The female passenger was extracted first and taken by ambulance to I-10 and SR 53 and later taken by helicopter to an area hospital. The male driver took longer to free from the wreckage as the point of impact was just behind the driver’s door. He was transported by ambulance to the Madison EMS facility and then taken by helicopter to an area hospital.
Madison EMS, Madison Fire/Rescue and the Madison County Sheriff’s office responded.
