Senior Citizens Transport Van Takes Out Power Pole
Friday afternoon emergency crews were called out to a one vehicle accident at the intersection of North Washington Ave. and Livingston St. where a transport van for the Madison Senior Citizens Council had run through a power pole.
A witness stated the transport van was traveling North on Washington just past Oak Ridge Cemetery when the driver began to cross the center line into the South bond lane and continued to veer left jumping the curve about 100 feet South of the intersection. The van continued North crossing over Livingston St. striking the power pole on the Southeast corner of the intersection causing it to break into three pieces finally coming to a stop in the back yard of Mr. Phillip Combs.
The passenger in the van suffered minor and was transported by Madison EMS to the Madison Hospital for further evaluation. The driver reported no injuries.
The intersection was closed for several hours and traffic diverted to alternate routes while Duke Energy replaced the damaged pole.
