City Commissioner to Give Saint Leo-Madison Commencement Address
MADISON, FL – City Commissioner Judy Townsend will give the commencement address to Saint Leo University’s Madison Education Center graduates at 4 p.m., Friday, May 27. The ceremony will be at Van H. Priest Auditorium on the North Florida Community College campus in Madison, FL.
About 40 members of the Class of 2016 will receive their degrees during the commencement. Giving the class farewell will be Connor Ginn, who is graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in business administration-management, and Danielle Leslein, who is graduating summa cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. Kristen Parks, Class of 2015, will lead the students in the traditional turning of the tassels and welcome them as Saint Leo alumni.
Townsend serves as the city commissioner for District 5, a position she has held for the past 25 years. As city commissioner, she has served four terms as mayor.
While serving on the City Commission, she represented the city on the North Central Florida Regional Planning Council Board, Women Elected to Municipal Government, and 3rd Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee Board. She is a member of Mount Nebo African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she serves as a steward. She is also a member of the Madison County Branch NAACP.
