NFCC Public Safety Academy Honors Correctional Officer Basic Recruit Graduates


MADISON, FL – Twenty-four graduates of the North Florida Community College Florida Correctional Officer Basic Recruit Program, CLASS 45-2015-1190-3, were honored during a graduation ceremony at the NFCC Public Safety Academy on Nov. 24. Three area correctional institutions were also recognized at the ceremony. Cross City Correctional Institution, Hamilton Correctional Institution and Madison Correctional Institution represented the students during their training and will now employ the graduates as they step into their professional careers.

“We could not be prouder of these graduating officers,” said Rick Davis, Director of the NFCC Public Safety Academy. “This group started out as strangers at orientation and are now family. I encourage you [NFCC graduates] to build on the foundation you have achieved today and to build a strong and honorable professional career. I truly believe we have some future wardens sitting among us today.”

According to Davis, this graduating class did exceptionally well with an overall grade point average equaling 93.6. Nineteen of the graduates received “Highest Honors” designations and five received “Honors” designations. Special honors went to Rebecca Senter who was awarded the 2015 Highest Academic Award and James Bailey II who received the 2015 "Top Gun" Award.

Madison Correctional Institution Warden Robert E. Smith Jr. was the keynote speaker. In his graduation address, he encouraged the graduates to be respectful, responsible and professional in all manners of their careers.

“I challenge you to be the very best correctional professional that you can be,” said Warden Smith. “You are now responsible for the care and trust of people who are incarcerated; they will depend on you and how you treat them is important. Treat everyone as you would like to be treated and don’t be afraid to ask for help because that is how you learn.”
