High Speed Chase Ends on MLK

Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Thursday the 17th day of September 2015 at 1:18 pm a Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a white 4 door Mercury west bound on Interstate 10 in Madison County for unlawful speed. The Mercury was clocked on radar traveling 87 miles per hour. When the deputy activated his blue lights the Mercury accelerated to 105 miles per hour and began to flee while passing other motorist in the grass median. The deputy initiated pursuit and the Mercury exited the Interstate turning North onto State Road 14 at 95 miles per hour. After traveling north for a short distance, the Mercury turned onto County Road 360A still refusing to stop. The driver of the Mercury (later identified as Michael Martrez Gallon) continued to drive the Mercury in a reckless manner while traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour as he entered the city limits of Madison. Other responding deputies set up tire deflation devices on Martin Luther King Drive near Madison Heights Apartments to stop the Mercury. Gallon attempted to avoid the tire deflation device by driving through the ditch however deputies were able to box in the Mercury ending the pursuit. Gallon and his passenger were arrested without further incident and transported to the Madison County Jail. During search of the Mercury deputies discovered a loaded handgun on the front seat.
