SEMI AND CAR COLLIDE ON HWY 53 NORTH
At approximately 5:30 PM on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 Madison County 911 Center received a report of a traffic crash on Hwy 53 North near Divingbird Loop about seven miles north of the city of Madison. First responders found a semi hauler in the tree line near the south bound lane and a car off the roadway north bound in the grass. The two vehicles had collided and both drivers were trapped and extrication was begun using the jaws of life. The Shands Care medical helicopter was called for the driver of the car. The truck driver was able to walk away after extrication with assistance of EMS staff. Help at the scene came from Madison Fire Rescue, Cherry Lake Fire Rescue, Pinetta Fire Rescue, Madison County Emergency Medical Services, Madison County Sheriff's Office, State Division of Forestry personnel, Florida Highway Patrol, and Madison County Emergency Management. FHP will be doing the crash report. Greenville Fire Rescue helped set up the landing zone for the helicopter.
