Obituary: Richard Donald “Donnie” Johnson


Richard Donald “Donnie” Johnson, 74, of Madison, FL, passed away July 25, 2015, in Madison, Florida. Donnie was born June 26, 1941 in Perry, FL, to James W. Johnson and Audrey (McDaniel) Johnson. Donnie was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Madison. He was the owner and operator of Johnson's Bakery in Perry, Florida for 27 years and was currently employed with them. For 14 years he worked for the Florida Highway Patrol then retired from the Department of Corrections where he had worked for 13 1/2 years. Donnie loved his faith, family and friends, and enjoyed cooking for and sharing with others. From January 20, 1987 until August 31, 2010, Donnie served with the Florida Highway Patrol Auxillary. He was a lifetime member of the Perry Masonic Lodge F&AM 123 and a charter member of the Marzuq Temple in Tallahassee, FL. Donnie was preceded in death by his Parents, Rev. James Wesley Johnson and Audrey McDaniel Johnson, daughter, Gayle Johnson Lundy, and granddaughter, Sierra McCroan; his sister-in-law, Nell Johnson and brother-in-law, Rev. Buddy Sadler. Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Barbara Ragans Johnson; two daughters, Kim Johnson Strickland (Jimmy) and Angela Andrews Eastabrooks (David); one son, Jarrod Andrews (Suzy) and a son-in-law, Doyle Lundy; two brothers, James Wesley "Jim" Johnson (Laverne) and George Johnson; one sister, Carol Sadler; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind three brothers-in-law, W.C. Ragans (Mary), Sputter Ragans (Linda) and Ronnie Ragans (Marilyn); three sisters-in-law, Helen Phillips, Diane Wells, and Patricia Bass (Gordie). Funeral Services will be held at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Madison on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. in Madison with Pastor Jackie Watts officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery in Madison. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Madison. Memorial contributions can be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308. Please reference Madison in your memo.
