Late Morning Structure Fire in Lee

Late in the morning of Saturday the 29th of November the call came in about a structure fire at 1949 SE Donaldson Rd in Lee. The Lee Volunteer Fire Department, Madison Fire Rescue and the Pinetta Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call. The smoke could be seen rising above the trees from miles away as the first responders approached the scene.

The home was fully involved upon arrival. The owner (Jennie Koontz) was in a nursing home at the time of the blaze. Her neighbors had been watching her home for her when they noticed smoke coming from the home and called 911.

The joint effort to stop the fire was not enough to quench the flames. More than 20,000 gallons of water was used to finally put the fire out and mop up the hot spots.

Madison EMS responded but no injuries were reported. The Division of Forestry assisted with their 6,000 gallon tanker.
