Obituary: William David (Dave) Braswell

William David (Dave) Braswell, 87, of Madison, passed away on October 4, at home surrounded by his family. He was born September 15, 1927 in Marianna, Fl., the son of the late Jeff and Bertha Braswell. He was the oldest of ten siblings. Mr. Braswell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gay Nelle, a son and four siblings.

He is survived by his children: daughter, Shirley and Claudie Quinn, of Crawfordville, Fl.; son, Sammy and Jackie Rutherford, of Monticello; Lisa Riley, of Tallahassee; Cindy and Chris Rosebush, of Tallahassee; and Mary Donna Pippin, of Madison, as well as 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings: his brother, Russell and Joyce Braswell of Atmore, Ala.; his brother, James and Shirley Braswell, of Pensacola, Fl.; his sister, Irene and Bob Waldrow, of Keystone Heights, Fl.; his sister, Mary Francis and Harold Powers of Richmond, Va.; his sister Betty and John Hudson from Greenville.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran. After the war, he remained in Germany for a few years. After returning to the U.S., he became a self-employed businessman for the last 69 years.

A memorial service will be held at Hopewell Baptist Church in Madison, on Saturday, October 11, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family will have a donation box at the service for the Philippines Mission Trip at Hopewell in April. Donations may also be sent directly to Hopewell at 4703 Southwest County Rd. 360, Madison, Fl. 32340 in Mr. Braswell’s name.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for all of the prayers and support received prior to and since their father’s passing.
