Armed Robbery at Fast Track at I-10 & 221
Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Wednesday the 10th day of September 2014 at 1:31 AM deputies of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Fast Track Store located at 2458 SW US 221 at the I-10 interchange in reference to an armed robbery that had just occurred. Deputies arrived within 10 minutes, secured the scene and began collecting evidence. The clerk reported that a white male entered the store armed with a knife and demanded the clerk put all the money from the register in a bag and hand it over. The clerk complied with the demand and placed the money from the register in a white plastic bag and gave it to the offender. The clerk stated that the offender was wearing a light colored shirt, dark blue jeans, a tan hat along with a tan and green scarf covering his face. The offender then fled the store with the stolen money. The entire robbery was captured on store surveillance video.
An investigator was called to the scene and assumed control of the investigation while patrol deputies began searching the area for possible suspects. The investigator viewed the surveillance video and recognized the offender to be Cody Dewayne Lee by distinctive body mannerisms from previous dealings with the Lee. The investigator informed the patrol deputies the identity of the offender and possible locations of where he could found.
Patrol deputies responded to 171 SW Harby Avenue in Greenville and found Lee involved in verbal altercation with family members. Deputies noted that Lee was wearing dark blue jeans and boots that were wet. Lee was detained for the investigator.
Upon arrival of the investigator, Lee was read his Miranda rights and agreed to answer questions. Lee provided a full recorded confession and led the investigator to the corner of a neighbor’s house where he had hidden the stolen money. Investigators recovered a white plastic bag that contained $102.00 in cash matching the exact amount reported stolen during the robbery. Lee was arrested without incident and transported to the Madison County Jail. Lee admitted that he committed the robbery and stole the money to pay his current probation fee.
