Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Friday the 1st day of August 2014 at 4:45 am deputies of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to 783 SE Byrd Ave after receiving information that fugitive LaFredrick McQuay was inside the residence. McQuay had previously evaded arrest on two occasions by fleeing on foot as deputies approached.
Deputies parked their vehicles more than a block away and stealthily approach the residence. Upon arriving at the residence deputies made contact with persons inside who told the deputies that McQuay was not there. Deputies were invited into the residence to search for McQuay. All rooms were checked but McQuay was not located.
While walking through the hallway a deputy noticed the hinges and door latches on the air-condition return vent were in the unlocked position however the vent door still appeared to be closed. The deputy pulled the vent and the vent was pulled back. Deputies then snatched the vent open and found that McQuay had concealed himself inside the A/C duct work of the mobile home.
