Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Saturday the 28th day of June, 2014 a deputy of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was on routine patrol when he observed a white Ford SUV driving erratically on Parramore Street. The vehicle turned onto Sinclair Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of First Street. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the SUV just south of Mickel Street. The deputy made contact with the driver (identified as Anthony Tumbling) and observed an opened can of beer in the cup holder of the center console. The deputy instructed Tumbling to exit the SUV and stand in front of the patrol vehicle. When questioned about the beer, Tumbling denied drinking any beer but then admitted to consuming “two”. The deputy instructed Tumbling to place his hands onto the patrol vehicle to be patted down for weapons but Tumbling refused and began to back away from the deputy. At that point Tumbling turned and fled on foot. The deputy gave chase and deployed his department issued Taser X2 ECD causing Tumbling to fall to the ground where he was taken into custody without further incident. The deputy was assisted by two Madison Police Department officers.
