Madison County District School Board Meeting
Superintendent Doug Brown opened the meeting by recognizing the 2014 District Spelling Bee Champions and Runners-up and District students who participated in the Science Fair in Lake City.
Next the board members approved the items on the consent agenda, followed by Will Rutherford who updated them on the projected time line for the Madison County High School renovation project. The Board voted to start advertising for a Project Manager for the MCHS renovation project.
Ray Griffin presented information on golf carts for Madison County Central School campus for the Boards consideration. Mr. Griffin presented three prices for the golf carts, one from Gainesville, one from Tallahassee and one from Valdosta. They ranged from $2,550.00 to $3,299.00. The latter from Valdosta, included painting the cart school colors. The Board took the information to review and consider at their next regular meeting.
Board member Kenny Hall presented a concern brought to him by some parents. The score board located at the Madison County High School football field is in bad shape and is beyond normal repairs. After some research, Mr. Hall said the cost to replace the score board with a similar 8 foot by 32 foot board would cost between $10,000.00 and $15,000.00. Superintendent Brown added that the cost of the new board could be recovered by offering advertising opportunities to community business partners. Board member VeEtta Hagan remarked that we needed to maintain our schools and suggested the score board should be replaced to improve the quality of the schools equipment. District staff will put together proposals for the Boards consideration at a upcoming meeting.
